Welcome to The Old Hatchery which is an affordable and comfortable B&B and self-catering accommodation 10 KM from Underberg on the Drakensberg Gardens Route. We provide free parking, free wi-fi and there is a al-a carte restaurant, called The Waterfall Restaurant on site. Our tranquil setting overlooks the uMzimkhulu river and magnificent views of the mountains.
Take a 4x4 tour up Sani Pass into Lesotho. Ride a horse along the ridges. Hike to some of the stunning caves and waterfalls in the nearby Nature Reserve. Catch some trout on fly. Cycle the mountain bike trail through forests and along rivers. Swim in the dam on a hot summer’s day. Take a picnic basket to Kenmo Lake. Sip on your favorite drink in front of the fire on a cold winter’s night. Ask at the main desk for all the exciting activities constantly going on all around us.

Bed & Breakfast: There are 9 comfortable en-suite rooms that can be set as king or twin beds. All rooms have bathroom/shower facilities, tea/coffee trays and televisions with DSTV.

Mountain Self Catering: We have 3 of these delightful little cabins that are suitable for couples. Each of them has a fireplace, bathroom, kitchenette, and braai facilities. From the parking area, you walk along the wooden decking and over our gorgeous little waterfall to get to the cabins. They also have a sofa couch.

Otters Den: Self-catering cottage which sleeps 6. This cottage is suitable for family or friends. The rooms consist of 1 double room and then the other 2 can either be king or twin. There is a fully fitted kitchen, lounge, TV with separate entrance.

Waterfall restaurant: We are open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vegetarian options are available and there is a bar alongside the restaurant. For those chilly days and evenings, we have a cozy stone fireplace which takes good care of the warmth.

All breakfasts for our B&B guests are catered for in the restaurant which overlooks the waterfall and trout dam, offering spectacular sunset views for those before dinner drinks. However self-catering guests are welcome to join us for any meal.
Kindly note that the deck and the Mountain Cottages are pet friendly so ones furry four legged family are welcome.
