1901 Stone Cottage

This beautiful secluded self-catering 1901 farm house is situated on a working farm in the Southern Drakensberg, Underberg nested between The Swamp Nature Reserve & Marwaqa Nature Reserve with Mountain view’s. The farming is ideal place for couples, solo adventurers, families with kids and pets. With plenty to do on the farm- from Fly fishing to over 4000 ha of mountain range to explore with hidden waterfalls, forests, streams and bushman paintings through to rare fauna and flora.

There are speakers with AUX cable to play music in the house. A growing little library and family board games are also available to keep you entertained during your stay. Please bring your own charcoal and firewood. Water to the house is spring water which may be brown sometimes but is perfectly safe to drink. Please bring your own water if you are not comfortable drinking fresh farm water. Non-smoking house and premises due to the high risk of fires in the veld.

Guests will have access to the farm dam and the mountain to explore and see its natural beauty. Strictly Fly fishing only on the dam and catch and release, R1000 fine for non-compliance which goes to the Underberg Fly fishing club. Fly fishing permits are available at R150 per day. Rod lease available at R150 per day including flies and net. There is a small rowing boat with paddles are available to play on the dam, this is at your own risk. The roads leading to the farm are all dirt roads with some rough sections and during heavy rains get quite muddy and slippery. Low clearance vehicles are not advised during snow and heavy rain periods. Please note this is a working farm so there are farming activities taking place during the day around the house, basic farm rules apply. We do have a second guest house which also allows pets and also makes use of the dam. Roaming security guards on the property during the day and night and alarm system in house with a panic button. A Cleaning Lady is available on request during your stay to make beds and wash up etc. at R 120 per morning, cash paid directly to her.

This is a large basic rustic farm style house that is equipped with a fully functional kitchen as well as a charcoal braai and all the basics. The house has 3 bedrooms (1 king bed, 1 king bed and 2 single beds convertible to a king bed) and can sleep 3 couples and two kids or alternatively 2 couples and 4 kids (please advise when booking which set up you would like). The third bedroom has two extra length single beds that can be made into a king size bed. The house is fenced off so pets are welcome and can be left behind while you are exploring in town. Each bedroom has its own heater. And there are extra blankets are available for those chilly nights. Linen, towels and basic toiletries are supplied. The house has a baby bath and cot to make use of- please request before your stay.
